This morning I was listening to my favorite local morning radio talk show. The host was chatting with the producer and the traffic girl, Paige. Paige said that yesterday her mother and seven friends had loaded into a van and were driving to Forks, WA. Yes, Forks - as in vampires, werewolves and true love. Paige said they were going to see Bella's house (who knew there really is a house considering this is a work of fiction), the reservation, and anything else related to the Twilight series of books. It seems this group of, presumably post-menopausal women, are great fans and are planning to visit the sights that have made this small, rainy town a pop culture landmark. They left home with their Pocket Edward Doll in tow and plan to feature him in photographs throughout their adventure.
I, for one, like the books but have never understood the "Edward Frenzy". Call me crazy, but every time Bella describes touching his cold hard skin or kissing his cold hard lips the appeal of it is lost on me. I guess I just prefer a man with a heartbeat. Not to mention his obsessive need to control and protect her - suffocating if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, I like Edward. He is a vampire with principles. He is handsome (in a red-eyed, pale skin way). He is rich. He is brave. And, he is loyal. All good qualities, he just doesn't make my heart skip a beat (I think this goes back to the whole skin and lips thing).
Well girls, I may have taken myself out of the "Edward Frenzy", but the competition is still stiff - tweens, teens, young mothers and even grandmothers.
